Role-Playing and World Building

Role-playing games can be an escapist pass-time; a Skinner box with a veneer of appealing fantasy. Through RPGs I unintentionally trained my young self to crave incremental improvement and mastery over the metrics and mechanics. Now I am older and more intentional about my mesolimbic hacks. I find joy in tabletop RPGs that provide a structure for collaborative storytelling.
